Years ago, I saw a picture of a silver-haired ball-jointed doll sleeping inside a suitcase. I was enchanted. I remember showing my phone screen to my friend who was sitting beside me. "Look", I said. "She looks just like an angel." You could probably call that "love at first sight"...
Suigintou is the first of the seven Rozen Maiden dolls, a series of living dolls made by the legendary dollmaker Rozen. These dolls compete in a battle royale called the "Alice Game", where the last survivor gets to become "Alice", the perfect girl. Suigintou is ruthless in her pursuit of victory- she's the series' initial antagonist, after all! However, she changes a lot once she meets a sick girl who calls her an angel-Megu, that is (and you can imagine how insane I went when she said that!).
Her character in the 2000's anime is quite different from how she is in the manga, and while I'm known to complain about the show and tell everyone to please read the manga instead, I'd be lying if I said I didn't love her dramatic broken-doll schtick...and also her sword. She's the quintessential edgy anime girl.
In a lot of ways, she feels like a character designed in a lab to appeal to me-and it might've worked a little too well. The very-expensive Suigintou super dollfie has become sort of a meme among everyone who knows me...she will be mine someday, and then I'll get married to her. Trust me.
