Princess Debut is a super cute rhythm/otome game for the Nintendo DS. I downloaded the ROM as soon as I saw a screenshot of it on Pinterest—it’s eye candy to the max~
I had never played a rhythm game for the DS, so I was a tad scared of what it'd be like, but it was super easy! You unlock a bunch of music and outfits to wear while dancing as you play. You use your stylus to trace some patterns on the bottom screen while your character and dance partner’s little 3d models move on the top screen—something I barely noticed as I was learning how the game works…
I was able to look at it while playing once I got more practice(everyone knows the correct way to play a rhythm game is to never look at the notes, after all), though it's not much to see. The 3d models are pretty awkward, especially compared to the super-pretty pixel art in the rest of the game. I wouldn't say I hate them, though—it’s a bit like those Aikatsu 3d models, I think…
I went for Vince on my first playthrough, for no particular reason—he just happened to invite me first. He's super adorable, even though I regretted my choice whenever I showed up for dance practice and he wasn't there (ー_ー゛) if no one got me I know the Laplace-looking bunny got me at least…
The romance aspect is super easy, and once you become dance partners there's not actually that much to do other than level up on the rhythm game until some sort of Event happens, so I ended up two-timing a whole bunch (which I felt a bit guilty about for a total of five minutes). I ended my first playthrough with 100% love points for both Vince and Luciano, which surprised me quite a bit since I didn't remember being particularly nice to the latter… Either way, the story was pretty cute. I was sad that I got so many new accessories on the very last day, though. You can use them in Ballroom Mode, but I wanted to dance with them in the main story…!
After finishing Story Mode once, you unlock a new gamemode(the Ballroom Mode I just mentioned), plus a new prince in Story Mode. Since I had my eye on Liam on my first playthrough, I went for him on my second run—the new kid can wait. This time he actually shows up to the dinner party(he’s not there in the first run). Surprisingly, he agreed to become my dance partner right then, and I had 100%’d his love meter by the like, 5th day—I two-timed with Liam a lot on the Vince route, so it's funny that I started two-timing him this early…I'm sorry princes, I want to see the events!
In Ballroom Mode you just have to dance a bunch of songs in a row and not fuck it up. After you clear it, you unlock a new, even-more-bonus prince—the one who was at your side since the beginning, who never let you down all this time…that's right, it's that little mascot that follows you around 24/7, Kip—I’m kidding, I'm kidding. Well, half-kidding. Play the game and see for yourself ;)
Overall, it's a super fun, sweet game, and I enjoyed it a whole bunch! I super recommend it ♡
